Step outside…

From the moment you step outside on your wedding day, you’re surrounded by glorious gardens. After you’ve made your final preparations in the gorgeous Apple Loft, you can make your way down the drive and through the heart gate to the Long Walk. Here, away from the eyes of your friends and family, you can compose yourself for your ceremony in a peaceful, relaxing setting. The herbaceous borders that line the long walk along with its woodland backdrop and surrounding farmland provide a natural, calm and wonderful backdrop for photos of your wedding procession.

Turn through the gate into the Walled Garden and here you’ll be able to see your partner and you friends and family waiting for you in the Orangery. You’ll make your way down the garden aisle with trees, flowers and foliage framing you as you approach your wedding ceremony. The gardens are romantic, elegant and beautifully private – utterly perfect for a truly memorable wedding.

Wedding receptions in the garden

After your wedding ceremony, the walled gardens come alive. Serve celebratory drinks and canapes to your guests and let everyone enjoy the gardens in their own way. There’s year-round colour and plenty of space for guests to mingle plus, there’s also plenty of room for garden games. Why not set up giant Jenga or croquet on the lush lawns?

Guests who prefer a slightly slower pace can take a seat and simply soak up the atmosphere, surrounded by flowers and foliage. The gardens are also perfect for musical entertainment too – the sounds of a string quartet or talented singer fill the Walled Garden wonderfully well.

Of course, the gardens are an exquisite backdrop for your wedding photos at any time of year. There are some fabulous focal points in the gardens including a dreamy pavilion and a rustic bench. You can also come back to the Walled Garden later in the day with your photographer so if you’ve got your heart set on sunset or night-time images, the gardens are all yours.

And don’t worry if there’s a little rain on your wedding day – rainy day aisle walks are amongst our favourite when it comes to the photographs. The garden’s paths will ensure you keep your gown clean and the space still looks amazing from underneath an umbrella!

Decorating the gardens

The gardens at our Essex wedding venue are always naturally pretty but lots of couples want to add their own personal touches. Here are a few of our favourite ideas:

Line the garden aisle with large lanterns. You can fill these with petals or candles if you prefer.

Hang decorations from the trees – single blooms in bud vases or test tubes can bring colour to the branches when the leaves have fallen.
