Jenny and Rob’s theme was Old English Romantic. They used vintage pink and ivory colours for their theme and had a vintage luggage ...
The Proposal
Rob proposed to Jenny on Christmas Eve in Red Square, Moscow.
I had an inkling that he had plans afoot though I hadn’t expected it to be then and the setting was beautiful!
The Wedding and Reception Venue
Jenny and Rob found Gaynes Park by researching civil ceremony venues in Hertfordshire and Essex.
I fell in love with the place from the brochures and was immediately sold when we saw it. The quality of the food was also a huge bonus and I have had so many people tell me that the meal was the best wedding food they’ve ever had.
They got married in the Orangery and had their reception in the Mill Barn.
“We loved the natural light that came through in the Orangery and the clean and modern decor. I love the Victorian walled garden and all the views across the countryside. Then for the reception we loved the intimate feel of the Mill Barn. Even though we had 120 guests, the wedding didn’t feel too big or too crowded. The layout is also great for keeping people together. The tree trunks are great for decoration and the fairy lights on the mezzanine just gave the Barn a lovely atmosphere.”
Bridesmaids
The bridesmaids wore Grecian-style one-shouldered dresses in rose pink.
The ushers all wore their own black suits with black skinny ties.
Your Dress, Accessories and Flowers
Jenny’s dress was a made to measure Mirror Mirror Couture design and was fitted by Jane, the founder of Mirror Mirror. It was a full length, empire line, capped sleeves, crossover neckline and ivory dress in French lace with a small train.
She had a pearl hair piece and shoes custom-made by Emmy in Islington and earrings by Vintage Magpie.
Jenny had a pink hand-tied bouquet of roses with lace trim and ivory hand-tied bouquets for her bridesmaids. The flowergirls had gypsophilia pomander.
I knew immediately when we were engaged that I would use roses which are my favourite flowers. Marion at Poppy’s Flowers was brilliant to work with.

As Jenny and Rob were getting married in the Orangery and having a reception in the Mill Barn they decided not to use any additional modes of transport.
The Decorative Touches
Jenny and Rob made use of the four tree trunks in the Mill Barn by decorating them with gypsophilia and leaves. They also used a vintage birdcage for people to post cards. Their name cards were vintage luggage tags and the tables names were of their favourite romantic films.
Two friends surprised us by creating a wish tree where people could fill out luggage tags and hang them on the tree instead of a guest book. It was a really lovely idea and such a nice surprise.
The couple’s centrepieces were glass square bowls filled with bamboo and pink roses wrapped with vintage lace trim and fairy lights.

Jenny and Rob had a three tiered, chocolate cake with ivory icing and sugared rose decorations.
Wedding Planning Tip
We chose to have a sweetheart table where Rob and I sat by ourselves in the middle of the room on a small table. This worked very well for us as it meant we got to chat to each other but also get up, move around and chat to people as we wanted without having to worry about abandoning people on our table.
