Real Life Wedding
Carl & Marc’s Relaxed & Rustic Spring Wedding
After proposing to each other on holiday, Carl and Marc began to plan their wedding. Their relaxed and rustic day had a very eclectic masculine vibe and was packed with personal details.
The Wedding & Reception Venue
Carl and Marc were determined to create an individual wedding that was totally ‘them’. The first step was to find the perfect venue and, after searching online and creating a shortlist, they visited Gaynes Park.

“When we were walking around the venue, everything we saw fitted so well with the style we were looking for and we couldn’t fault a single thing. We could really picture our wedding taking place at Gaynes Park and we were really excited when we left.”
Wedding Planning
With just 14 months to plan their big day, Carl and Marc started work on the practical and personal elements on planning. They start with a spreadsheet, listing everything they would need for the day along with estimated costs.
The couple also chose their colour scheme and overall theme for the day, bringing in their own favourite things and also making lots of details themselves.
“We chose a rustic theme with lots of foliage, shades of green and eclectic décor, including using ornaments from home. We bought lots of things to make our own decorations, including metal hoops, vintage suitcases and books, Japanese origami paper and Japanese postcards. We kept the local delivery drivers busy for months!”

The Outfits
Carl and Marc wore fabulous suits from Jennis & Warmann that were slightly different in style so that they would complement each other without matching completely.
“We both went for three-piece suits with matching waistcoats and brown brogues. Carl’s suit was a blue herringbone and Marc’s a green windowpane. We knew we’d be comfortable in our suits on the day and, as March wasn’t likely to be warm, we felt that tweed was a good choice!”
The couple bought marigold yellow knitted ties and pocket squares and Marc wore the bee cufflinks that Carl had bought him a few years earlier. Carl accessorised his look with moss-filled cufflinks that worked so well with the rustic theme of the day.

The Decorative Touches
The couple made their own escort card display, hanging cards on ribbons inside moss covered hoops whilst other hoops were covered in photos and one was even used as a ‘selfie hoop’ so that guests could use it as a frame for their own photos.

“We hung tulle pom poms from the trees in the Walled Garden for extra colour and we hired lanterns for the Mill Barn along with drapes for the Orangery and festoon lighting for the Gather Barn from Mediterranean Occasions .”

Continuing the personal theme, Carl made the couple’s wedding cake! The lemon madeira cake was finished with delicate lemon buttercream and a personalised cake topper. Another big hit were the activity books for the children at the wedding and these were also designed by Carl and Marc and contained word searches, dot-to-dots and spot the difference along with lots of pages to colour in.

The Wedding Day
Carl and Marc’s civil wedding ceremony in the Orangery was perfectly choreographed with the couple meeting for a few moments alone under the Pavilion in the Walled Gardens before arriving together right on cue. They then jointly read a reading and shared their own promises during a ceremony where they were surrounded by family and friends.
“When we left the Apple Loft with our nephew and nieces, it really hit us that it was all about to happen and that was an emotional moment. Walking down the aisle was really special as we managed to involve the kids and they did a great job.”

The celebrations began with a drinks reception that was full of fantastic canapes. Curried lamb with mint yoghurt dip, fried Somerset brie with a sesame crust and prawn and ginger wontons were just some of the delights on offer to guests before everyone moved to the Mill Barn for the wedding breakfast.
This mouth-watering feast was another triumph with a menu that included terrine of braised ham hock, elderflower sorbet, beef two ways and a dark chocolate mousse to finish along with matching wines throughout.

After the couple’s evening guests had arrived, the evening party began, and it was some party!
“We wanted our first dance to be really fun and memorable and as Marc used to teach dance in his youth, he choreographed our routine. We put in a few tricks, including a leap frog and everyone was definitely surprised!”
“Alongside our band, we also hired a photo booth for the evening, which was great fun and we supplemented the props with a few of our own. We also went for a rum bar in the evening along with a couple of beer barrels, a popcorn machine and a sweet bar that used Marc’s extensive collection of Kilner jars!”
At the end of the evening, the newlyweds and their guests headed to the Coach House , which they booked separately through Gaynes Park Ltd, and relived the best bits of the day over a big breakfast the following morning, making the most of every minute together in style.
