Georgia & Callum

A pastel palette of dusty pink & purple was the choice for Georgia & Callum. Take a look for great ideas and wedding inspiration

How did you feel when you first met?

We met at 14 and we didn’t really like each other! It was June 2011 and we went to the cinema to see X-Men.

How did Callum propose?

He took me for a walk on the beach and asked as we were sitting on the sand.

What made you choose Gaynes Park?

We loved the rustic feel of the barn and could really see ourselves getting married there, as it was what we both wanted…. It was perfect!

How did you feel when you first saw it?

We were blown away by how beautiful it was. We loved the beams, the big windows and the food!

What accessories did you wear on the day?

My headpiece was a 1950s vintage necklace that we made into a headband. I wore my mum’s earrings, my own bracelet that my mum gave to me on the wedding morning, and a gold and amethyst ring that I had already.

Where did the groom buy/hire his outfit?

Callum wore a slim fit suit in navy from Next and a Paul Smith tie. He looked very handsome.

Tell us about your bridesmaids

I had 5 bridesmaids – one of my closest friends Emily, my sister-in-law Ellen, my cousin Michaela, my little sister Izzy, and my friend Eden.

Tell us about their outfits

Their dresses were a dusky pink lace and were from House of Fraser, their shoes were from Wallis, I bought them a bracelet as a bridesmaid present personalised from not on the high street with their initials.

Tells us about the best man and ushers

Callum decided that he wanted his brother, Jake to be his best man as they are a year apart in age and have always been very good friends. He asked his little brother, Levi to be an usher, as well as Curtis, Scott and Mitchell who are my cousins.

They have been friends for a long time and that’s how we got introduced. He also had our friend, Sam who has been our best friend for a long time, and Callum’s close family friend, Carl who he grew up with. They all wore navy suits with a skinny floral tie from Topman.

What’s your favourite memory of the ceremony?

I couldn’t wait to take the veil off as soon as I sat down and I remember my mum whispering quite loudly Noooooooo!

What was your theme?

Vintage dusky pink and purple.

Tell us about your cake and decorations

I made my own wedding cake (Georgia is a wedding cake maker and decorator). It was entirely fruitcake and it took me 1 month to make as it had hundreds of sugar flowers covering it!

We had 5 vases on each table filled with hydrangeas, sweet avalanche roses, delphiniums, hyacinths, amnesia roses, purple lisianthis and blue thistles. The top table was absolutely covered in vases with all the different flowers with tall gold candlesticks flickering through the wedding breakfast.

What did you serve for the wedding breakfast?

We had a scallop starter, a roast lamb main and the caramelised bread and butter pudding for dessert. We had so many people say the food was the best they’d ever had. To sum it up, my uncle said that if he died after that dinner he’d be a happy man because it was the best he’d had.

How did you organise the table plan?

We had a traditional top table with all our family around us. We had ten more tables.

How many people did you cater for? Did more arrive for the evening celebrations?

We had 110 to the sit down meal and then an extra 90 in the evening.

Tell us about the speeches

My dad did the first speech, he said a couple of things that really made everyone laugh. The best was when he said there were a lot of young people at our wedding, and he can imagine that all the older ones are saying to them that it’ll be their turn next…well, he said, you start can saying the same thing to them at funerals!!!!!

Then the best man Jake did a speech involving a lot of toilet humour… Followed by my step dad who nicely embarrassed me by telling everyone that I thought Hong Kong was in Japan and one time I got confused and thought I had to take euros to Devon!!

Then Callum finished off by thanking everyone and got a little bit choked up.

Did you have entertainment?

We had a photobooth, which went down so well, and we have an amazing photo book that we look back on regularly when people come round! It was from Party Booths in Rayleigh, Essex.

Tell us about the first dance – what song did you choose and why?

We did a dance from a film called Napoleon Dynamite, as it’s one of our favourite films. It was to the song Canned Heat by Jamaroquai and we choreographed the routine from the film!!

Tell us your most memorable moment

My most memorable point would be when Danny Mills the pianist sung Bohemian Rhapsody for me and we were in stitches of laughter as he got one of our friends to hit the high notes!!!

What was the best part of the day?

When we got in the car together after the ceremony it felt so surreal, and also finishing the night off with a Harlem Shake!!!!

If we could do it all again, we’d…

I don’t think we’d change a thing it was all so amazing…

Tell us about the honeymoon

We didn’t want the hassle of going to an airport and getting a long flight so we stayed at a place called Teacup Cottage in Warleggan Mount in Cornwall. It was the perfect cottage and was so cosy with a log fire, we didn’t want to leave!

We went for walks by the sea, through the fields and saw lots of wild ponies and highland cows. We travelled into Newquay and sat overlooking the beach, then spent a couple of nights in Devon near Woolacombe.

Based on your own experience, please give us some top tips…

• For brides: Don’t stress out!!! Even if things go slightly wrong, it doesn’t even matter. On the day you’re just so happy to be there, everything you were stressed about seems silly!

• For grooms: Keep your bride happy!

• Keeping to a budget: Get all the important things first, the venue, the dress, the DJ, the cake, the flowers and then all the little details you can cut back on. All the small things aren’t the things you’ll remember.
